ICYMI: Sinister villains from other universes visit MCU Spidey

January 8 could not come any sooner in the Philippines as Filipino fans were treated with the second trailer of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third Spider-Man film produced by Marvel Studios for Columbia Pictures.

To those who are surprised why there are two studios involved in the movie - Columbia Pictures has owned the film rights to Spider-Man since the time when Marvel Comics had to sell its IP to due to bankruptcy decades back. All's good now with Marvel, after being acquired by media giant Disney.

Now back to the trailer! It looks like previous Spider-Man films produced by Columbia Pictures would be canon, or at the very least part of the multiverse recognized in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Iconic villains from the Tobey Maguire and the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies have appeared in the latest trailer.

We've got Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe from the Sam Raimi films, reprising their roles as Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin; and Jamie Foxx from Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Electro in a new costume and power effects faithful to the comics. Other villains that pop up were Sandman and the Lizard but it wasn't clear if they are played by its original actors.

Because of the Metro Manila Film Festival, we would be dodging spoilers for three weeks as it is released internationally on Dec. 17. May Doctor Strange help us find a spell to censor those posts.

In case you missed, here are some stills from the trailer:
