10 Cloverfield Lane: Thrilling mash-up of genres

10 Cloverfield Lane is like a matryoshka doll, a set of genres of decreasing size placed one inside another. It begins with as trivial as a lover’s quarrel, shifts to a psychological thriller and mutates into science fiction. It is a great movie thrill seekers will enjoy.

The plot is interesting enough - a woman who has always run away from her problems finds herself trapped in a doomsday bunker with virtually no means of escape. Amid the air of distrust over three survivors, we, the viewers want things to work out for them as they try to make life underground  normal. But not until they learn that there is a danger in their midst.

This is where the screams in the movie house start. Expect to root for the characters in this mind-blowing mystery with twists that will satisfy you. The third act though may have come with a convenient quick fix, but by that time, the protagonist’s persistence may have won the audience’s hearts.
